Photographic retouching is also fast becoming an art in itself. Digital software has improved so much in the last five years that damaged and faded photos - even with missing material - due to age, moisture, and improper storage over many years - can be fully restored to their former glory. Recent improvements to computer applications in the hands of an artist are used to turn black and white photos into true-color images without that flat, crayon-like haze of past digital tools. This is a time-consuming effort, but worth the investment when seeing old black and white or yellowish photos updated in full color for the first time!
